ORGANISATIONS, corporate groups and other entities competed for titles in colourful splendor at this year’s Mash Costume Band and Float Parade; but telecommunications giant Digicel ‘outshone all competitors to cart off top honours in the Individual Male and Female, Large Full Costume, and Large Semi-Costume categories.
Close on their heels was Banks DIH Limited, which carted off the Individual Queen title, placed third in the Large Full Costume segment, and second in the Semi-Costume Large Band category. The beverage giant also earned first place in the Commercial Floats category.
Another force to be reckoned with was Region # 3, which placed third in the Medium Costume category and won both the King and Queen titles in the Individual Pieces categories; demolishing all to win in the Regional Medium Costume segment.
Regions # 4 and 6 followed in the other two available positions.
It was ANSA Mc AL Trading Liited’s year to take home the Individual King title, and also to place second in the Large Full Costume category.
In the Medium Costume Category, the Tourism Ministry placed first, with the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs following in second position. The Education Ministry took the top position in the Small Costumes category, forcing the Linden Technical Institute and the Rusal Bauxite Company to settle for second and third places respectively.
The third place winner in the Semi-Costume Large Band category was the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment.
The battle was fierce for those contending the Medium Semi-Costume category, but in the end none could match the creativity of designer Paul Burnette, who made it possible for overseas-based John ‘Slingshot’ Drepaul to win in this field. Taking the second and third spots respectively were Ministry of Education and Region # 5.Apsara and Lux Entertainment took top honours in the Small Semi-Costume category, also taking the second spot in the Commercial Floats behind Banks DIH Limited.
As anticipated by many the Culture Ministry carted off the first prize in the Non-Commercial Floats category, with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Region # 6 hot on their heels in second and third places respectively.

This year, it was Adrian Dutchin’s soca piece ‘Juk’ that earned the judges’ nod for title of Road March King.
