The late Oscar Shew passed away on February 15,, 1999 in the USA and in a fitting tribute to the successful businessman his son has been staging annual tournaments since, the inaugural one held the year after his death.
Apart from being a well-known businessman, Shew was also a Charter Member of the South Georgetown Lions Club.
During his tenure with the club, Shew was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship, signifying 25 years of Lionism Service.
Prior to Sunday’s presentation ceremony which was officiated by Orin Boston, the participating teams and officials observed one minute’s silence in memory of the deceased businessman.
Organiser Manniram Shew would like to take this opportunity to express sincere thanks to the executives and members of Everest Cricket Club for once more allowing the use of their club for the grand occasion.
According to Shew, next year’s tournament will be even bigger with the expected participation of three overseas teams.
