Opposition is burying itself

THE talk on everyone’s lips is “what is going on in Guyana.” The reason for this inquiry is as a result of the mindless antics of the opposition with that one-seat majority.

This confusing and totally crazed performance of the Deputy Speaker placing a gag order on the Minister of Home Affairs is causing international headlines. It is a blatant
disregard for the Constitution of this country that caused her in a very insulting way to violate the minister’s rights.
At the Speaker’s last sitting in the House with great reluctance he granted the minister permission to speak. However, this brought outrage on the opposition’s side, which would have none of it and staged a walkout. For whatever strange reason Trotman excused himself from last Friday’s sitting thus paving the way for his Deputy to chair the proceedings of the House. Instead of redeeming themselves from the disgraceful picture they’ve had in Parliament so far, Deputy Speaker Backer then did the unthinkable of denying the minister his constitutional rights yet again. She, in essence would have fulfilled another remarkable act of “yard fowl” behaviour.
Instead of seizing the opportunity to redeem themselves they are still wallowing in swill. This is the sorry situation our country has found itself in due to the one-seat majority. The point is a people who are trained bullies cannot by way of parliamentary decorum act in a civilised manner. So the least opportunity they have these incorrigible people play out these mindless games. They fancy the fact that they are on camera and seemingly “in control.” However, I would caution them to take control of themselves and act
responsibly; the world is watching! But then again that is asking them to commit suicide. I would not even attempt to blame the people of this country for this untenable and
obnoxious situation that obtains. Some writers beat up on the people for allowing this to happen. But I’d rather say kudos to the people for granting the opposition an opportunity to bury themselves with their own foolishness. Had it not been for this last chance at “government” the people of this great land would never have experienced the opposition for who they really are. It is a last ditch effort by a group of despicable persons before the inevitable takes place.
In reality what is going on in Parliament is a total ban on everything the government has to say. Minister Rohee, according to them, should say nothing in Parliament. But if you take a closer look at what’s going on it is the entire government that has a gag order. The Minister of Legal Affairs cannot lay his plans as he should without being shouted down. In like manner the Finance Minister is sidelined for a known bandit in Carl Greenidge. The latest I’ve heard is a budget presented by Carl Greenidge instead of one presented by the Minister of Finance. Fascinating! And I mean this in a negative sense. In essence the opposition is operating as “the government.”
I like to use Guyanese proverbs to hammer home the point and I am proposing two of them.
a) With all their fanciful footwork the opposition knows that time is running out on them hence the proverb “cow deh a slaughter house he nah kay wheh he S**t.”
b) Another of my behind the cow’s tail stories “smart fly does get lack up in cow b****d.” Soon and very soon I shall see the opposition snugly there.
