A FORMER cashier, at the popular J’s Supermarket in New Amsterdam, appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo on Monday, charged with larceny by clerk or servant.
Amarwattie Dasrat, 32, of Lot 701 Glasgow Housing Scheme, East Bank Berbice, was not required to plea to the indictable charge that alleged she stole $1,682,000 from Ramanand Sripaul, owner of the business.
The accused, whose photograph was posted on the electronic media, stating that she was not authorised to conduct any transactions on behalf of her employers, was put on $100,000 bail.
In addition, she was ordered to report to Central Police Station in New Amsterdam every Monday.
That was despite attorney-at-law, Mr. Charrandas Persaud, in the bail application, informed the court that the accused is not a flight risk. She is the married mother of an 11-year-old son and has a fixed place of abode.
