Guyhoc woman jailed, fined in Berbice for narcotics

TWENTY-TWO-YEAR-OLD Alana Angel known as ‘Lana’, of Lot 39 Arapaima Street, Guyhoc Park, Georgetown, was sentenced to three years imprisonment on Tuesday for drug trafficking.

In addition, at New Amsterdam Court, Berbice, she was fined $2.7M on conviction for having trafficked 458 grammes of cocaine.
Angel was also found guilty of having half a gramme of cannabis sativa (marijuana) and fined an additional $6,000 with the alternative of three weeks imprisonment.
Police said, last October 5, whilst at Palmyra Village ,East Canje, the prisoner was a passenger in a car plying the Georgetown to New Amsterdam route when the vehicle was stopped a short distance,  East of the Berbice River Bridge.
The passengers along with their possessions were searched and the illegal substance was unearthed in Angel’s bag.
