MOHAN Persaud called ‘Batty Cup’ was remanded to prison on Monday, on a cattle larceny charge.
He appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo at New Amsterdam Court, where it was alleged that he committed the offence between October 23 and 24, 2012.
Police Corporal Orin Joseph, prosecuting, said the animals are owned by Narine Sammy Permaul, who secured them in a pen, at Williamsburg, Corentyne, also in Berbice and went home.
However, on his return, he observed that the pen was opened and a dark brown bull and six dark brown heifers, all valued $1M, were missing.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the defendant and others broke into the pen and stole the animals which have not been recovered, the prosecutor said.
The case will be called, again, on March 26, at Albion Court, for a bail review.
