North Sophia youth accused of break-in – at North West District location

HARVEY George, 18, of Lot 194 North Sophia yesterday appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry to answer a break and enter and larceny charge.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that between February 6 and 7 at Big Creek Backdam, North West District, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Titus Arthur and stole male clothing valued $114,000, among other items totaling $149,000 in value.
Police Corporal Seon Blackman, prosecuting, had no objection to bail, but requested that it be substantial. He also requested that the defendant report to the Port Kaituma Police Station every Friday until the matter is determined.
The defendant was placed initially on $100,000 bail but he requested that the sum be reduced since he cannot afford that amount.
The prosecutor objected to the reduction stating that the sum granted is a fair amount. However, the magistrate reduced the defendant’s bail to $75,000 and ordered him to appear at Matthews Ridge court on May 7.
