A NORTH Sophia man yesterday appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman accused of unlawfully assaulting his mother with an ice pick.
Keith Johnson, 44, of Lot 212 North Sophia pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that on February 10, he unlawfully assaulted Yvette Johnson to cause her actual bodily harm.
Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunt, prosecuting, had no objection to bail but requested that the defendant be placed on a bond to keep the peace. He said that on the day in question the defendant and the virtual complainant were in a heated argument.
Hunt said the defendant became annoyed and hit the virtual complainant with an ice pick to her head thereby causing injuries.
The virtual complainant informed the court that the defendant is her son and that he lives with her. She told the court that she wants the defendant out of her house and for him to be placed on a bond.
The defendant was placed on $20,000 bail and he was also placed on a bond to keep the peace until the matter is determined. The case will be called again on March 7.
