GT&T presents Blind Society with free DSL service for CSEC programme

THE Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T), on Friday, presented a free high speed DSL internet facility to the Guyana Society for the Blind, which is in need of internet connectivity so members can study the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) syllabus which is being taught electronically.

altAccording to a GT&T press release,   the society approached GT&T for assistance to undertake a programme that allows it to offer its young members the opportunity to write various subjects at the CSEC examination.
The society, located at St. Phillips Green, Werk-en-Rust, with support from the Ministry of Education initiated the programme this year and at least 14 blind, visually impaired and physically challenged students would write the exams next year.
According to the society, the online programme will also facilitate other students in outlying regions writing the exams as well.
The release noted that GT&T feels this is a very meaningful programme and is therefore pleased to assist in making the institute realise its objectives with the provision of the free DSL service.
Meanwhile, Mr. Cecil Morris, chairman of the society extended heartiest gratitude to GT&T for coming onboard and assisting in this significant way.   He said this programme will change the lives of its members as many of them will be able to acquire jobs and earn a monthly income.
