A Mashramani exhibition opened Thursday at the Guyana National Museum, showcasing the historical perspective of the event aimed at educating the public on the festival and highlighting the initial celebration to the present through photos, costumes, displays, and videos. Prime Minister Samuel Hinds pointed out to the gathering that Mashramani is one of the main events in the country and it is recognised because of its commercial importance.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Dr. Frank Anthony, in his remarks, reiterated that the ministry has been trying to make the museum more proactive in terms of learning ,and one way of doing so is by having the Annual Mash Exhibition. This year’s event is held under the theme “Reflecting Creativity, Celebrating Diversity”.
Minister Anthony encouraged all schools to be part of the exhibition, as he feels it is very important to understand the history of the event. He reiterated that the Mobile Museum Programme that was launched last month will allow students who cannot visit the museums to see the exhibits.

Minister Anthony added that Guyana will also be celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the 1763 Berbice Slave Rebellion. During this month there will also be three distinguished lectures on the rebellion and the launching of a book.
He said that this month the ministry will be working with UNESCO to bring to Guyana an exhibition based on slavery.
Speaker of the National Assembly Raphael Trotman, who was also present at the ceremony, said that he was impressed with the quality of work of the Culture Ministry, and encouraged all Guyanese to participate in the many events. (GINA)
