PRESIDENT of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Roger Harper along with Davteerth Anandjit yesterday morning sought for and got an injunction restraining the members of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) executive body from electing any officers for the embattled Demerara Cricket Board (DCB). According to an advertisement that was published in the Kaieteur News on December 24 and 25 last, the GCB had called on the member associations affiliated to the DCB to name their list of delegates for the said purpose of holding office within the DCB.
According to the injunction which was ordered by the Honourable Madam Justice Diana Insanally, who heard the petition for both Harper and Anandjit, in Chambers, the plaintiffs are claiming that the purported meeting and election of office-bearers held at the Wales Community Centre on January 22, 2011, is null, void and to no effect.
It further claimed that the defendants who were named to serve on the DCB at that meeting, should restrain themselves from holding offices with the DCB or performing any function for and on behalf of the DCB, adding that the meeting held at the Wales Community Centre was not in accordance with the decision of the DCB held five days earlier.
Furthermore, the defendants who were served with the injunction, may have to pay the plaintiffs damages in excess of G$1M for losses suffered consequent upon the unlawful activities of the defendants in holding themselves out as and performing functions for and on behalf of the DCB, adding that the plaintiffs brought the action for and on behalf of the GCA and the East Coast Cricket Board.
Some members of the defendants who were listed as being served jointly and severally with the injunction are: Rajendra Singh, Lalta Digamber, Anand Sanasie, Alfred Mentore, Dru Bahadur, Terrence Holder, Troy Mendonca and Rayon Griffith, just to name a few. (Calvin Roberts)
