THREE persons, one of them a woman, appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, yesterday, on a joint murder charge following the recent robbery at Lethem Post Office in Rupununi. Alvin Kissoon, of Lot 395 Caneville, Grove, East Bank Demerara, Calvin King, of Lot 280 Savage Street, North East La Penitence and Terrisha Lovell, of Lot 96 Campbelville Housing Scheme, both Georgetown addresses were charged indictably.
Particulars of the offence said, between January 18 and 19, they murdered Christopher John Friday in the course of or in the furtherance of the $9.8M robbery.
Police Inspector Burgette Grant, prosecuting, told the Court that the three accused committed the crime at the Lethem Post Office where they torched several safes and stole the cash.
The prosecutor said the trio tied up two security guards, beat them and, as a result, one died.
According to the prosecutor, during the investigation, the accused were intercepted with the money; a number of Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Company (GT&T) phone cards, and two pay slips.
The three were remanded to prison until March 5, when they will appear at Lethem Magistrate’s Court to where the case has been transferred.
