Palm Court shooting… Man remanded on charges of unlicensed gun, ammo

CUSTOMS broker Ryan Busbee (no address given) was remanded to prison yesterday, on charges of being in possession of a firearm and ammunition without licences.

He appeared before Magistrate Allan Wilson and pleaded not guilty to both offences, particulars of which stated that, on January 20, in Main Street, Georgetown, he had an unlicensed pistol along with eleven rounds of 9 mm calibre bullets.
Police Inspector Burgett Grant, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail for the defendant.
She said police were in the area when they heard a gunshot and responded by going to Palm Court Restaurant, where they searched the defendant and found the gun and ammunition.
Defence Counsel Glen Hannoman said a shooting occurred in the vicinity of Palm Court but Busbee was not the shooter.
The lawyer said the business is equipped with cameras and the police should conduct a proper investigation to determine who fired the shots.
Counsel said police swabbed Busbee’s hands and detected no gunpowder residue, yet they arrested him.
The defendant has to be back in court on January 30.
