Keeping promises at Matthews Ridge… DIGICEL renovates Community Centre, presents sports gear

DIGICEL (Guyana), last Saturday, delivered on a promise to Region One (Barima/Waini) when it handed over a newly renovated community centre at Matthews Ridge, North West District.

altThe communications giant also gifted sports gears to pupils of Matthews Ridge Primary School, after which a football clinic was conducted, all in the thrust to foster better relations and further develop community-based projects to enhance the lives of residents.
On Saturday morning, Digicel Brand Ambassador, Curtis Armstrong (DJ Casual) presented the sports gear to some 40 pupils of Matthews Ridge Primary School.
Headteacher Shondell Worrell accepted the donation on the Matthews Ridge Community Centre ground and expressed her gratitude on behalf of the beneficiaries, assuring the donor that the footwear, uniforms and footballs will be fully utilised to promote the game.alt
There, too, was Guyana Football Federation (GFF) coach Lyndon France who conducted the clinic for boys between the age of six and 12 years.
Meanwhile, the formal handing over of Matthews Ridge Community Centre was accepted by Shondell St. Juste, who represented both the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) and the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of Matarkai Sub-Region.

Very beneficial
Head of Digicel Marketing, Jacqueline James was also in attendance and she told the gathering that the refurnished multi-purpose facility will be very beneficial to the altcommunity for both social and sporting activities.
St. Juste added that the building will be used, as well, to house the Magistrate’s Court every three months.
But such an edifice was needed in the community, especially for the youths to engage in sports.
Speaking on behalf of Digicel, James said the company is always happy to assist in community related projects which can better the lives of the residents.alt
She was pleased with the turnout by a large crowd of villagers and a party was hosted, including popular music blaring from huge boom boxes way into Sunday morning.
The Matthews Ridge Community Centre was in disrepair for more than a decade and Digicel, recognising the need, commenced the renovation last year, repairing and repainting the entire premises.
