THE Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) community of Guava Bush has been plunged into mourning following the discovery of a 70-year-old woman lying dead on her kitchen floor, hands bound and a gag in her mouth. Dead is Jasmattie Pooran, better known as “Auntie Jaz”, who had been living alone some time now. The gruesome discovery, the second in the country in 24 hours, was made just before lunchtime yesterday.

Up to press time, however, the Chronicle was unable to confirm whether the woman’s body bore any marks of violence, or if there were any signs of break and entry and/or robbery. Neither were we able to ascertain whether anyone had been arrested in connection with her death.

The police are, however, reportedly investigating the matter.
