RUDOLPH Hubbard, 42, of East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was killed early yesterday morning when the motorcycle he was riding crashed into the concrete base of a utility pole on the Houston Public Road, East Bank Demerara.
Police said the fatal accident occurred at about 02:15 hrs as the rider, proceeding at a fast rate, collided with the concrete structure and fell off his ‘Honda RR’ superbike.
Police said the man died on the spot from severe injuries and his machine ended up in several pieces on the roadway but his death was pronounced on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
A woman, who identified herself as the daughter of the deceased, at her Tucville home in the city, told the Guyana Chronicle she heard of the tragedy but did not have details of what transpired.
She said her father used to live with his mother at East Ruimveldt, in the city, too, but no one was at the residence yesterday. Neighbours said the biker was living alone since his relatives were overseas.
Other persons told this newspaper that Hubbard had a passion for motorcycles and was an avid biker. He was returning home after having drinks with some friends when he met his demise.
Police Traffic Headquarters said, yesterday, that, for this year, so far, two such fatalities have been recorded, as compared to four for the same period last year.
