GCB Inter-County Four-Day competition – Demerara beat Essequibo inside three days … Berbice in sight of outright win

DEMERARA completed an outright victory against Essequibo inside three days of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Four-Day Inter-County competition while Berbice are certainly sitting pretty going into the final day against the President’s XI.

At the Everest Cricket Club (GCC) ground Demerara chased down the target comfortably in their second innings to claim victory by eight wickets. Essequibo started the day on 72-1, wiped off Demerara’s deficit of 92 runs and got to 187 all out, setting  Demerara a target of 96. Demerara then reached 97-2 to achieve the  victory.
Robin Bacchus was unbeaten on 62 and Vishaul Singh not out on 21 for Demerara who reached their target in 25.2 overs. Shemroy Barrington made ten and Chanderpaul Hemraj was out for just one run. Herry Green and Anthony Adams picked up one wicket each for Essequibo.
Earlier in the day, Essequibo’s Dillon Heyliger (57) and Vijay Surujpaul (54) put up a fight against the Demerara bowlers but the pitch was just too flat for the target to be a threat to the eventual victors.
Totaram Bishum bagged 3-48, Amir Khan claimed 3-61 and Kellon Carmichael finished with 2-24 for Demerara.
Meanwhile, the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) saw Berbice resume at their overnight total of 267-3 to reach 428-8 declared. They then bowled excellently against President’s XI who are 135-6 at stumps, replying to the lead of 246.
Anthony Bramble is unbeaten on 78 with three lower order teammates to come. Jeetendra Sookdeo (17) and Eugene La Fluer (13) were the other two batsmen to reach double figures for President’s XI.
Gudakesh Motie picked up two wickets while Clinton Pestano, Eon Hooper, Keon Joseph and Sewnarine Chattergoon took one wicket each.
Earlier in the day, Gajanand Singh was dismissed for 65 while Delbert Hicks made a solid 68 and Pestano chipped in with 20.
Seon Daniels was the best bowler with 3-82 while Collis Butts took 2-60.
The action continues today at DCC at 09:30hrs.
