LINDO Junior Davis of Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara who allegedly snatched two gold chains from Berbice Divisional Crime Chief Marlon Chapman, appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo charged with larceny from person.
The 20-year old fisherman pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that he stole the jewels valued $1,275,000. He was remanded to prison.
Police Corporal Orin Joseph, prosecuting had objected to pre-trial liberty on the grounds that the defendant may not attend his hearings.
According to Joseph, Davis was apprehended by cops as he attempted to flee the jurisdiction for Suriname.
On December 26, at about 22:30 hours, Chapman along with colleagues were at Matthew Allen road [stelling road] when he was suddenly robbed.
