Carpenter father of four seriously injured in early Sunday accident at Eccles

COMPTON James of Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara was seriously injured in an accident on the Eccles Public Road at about 01:00 hr last Sunday, after the motor cycle he was allegedly riding at a fast rate of speed became uncontrollable and skidded on the road. A friend rushed James to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) to receive attention for the severe injuries he sustained. The flesh on his right leg was almost completely grazed off, and that leg was broken in two places.

According to Mrs James, (first name not given) the man’s medical condition is such that he may never walk again.

An eyewitness who spoke with this publication anonymously said James was apparently racing with others when the incident occurred; and upon losing control of the bike, he panicked and tried to jump off of the moving cycle, but was trapped after it fell and dragged him along the road.

Mrs James disclosed that her husband, a carpenter, is sole breadwinner for the home, and has to sustain four children, aged two, four, six and ten. She said he has always been careful, so she cannot understand how such a thing could have happened to him.

Police are actively investigating the matter.
