HAVING formed a wonderful relationship with beverage manufacturing giant, Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL), in which two Under-16 championships were held, the Steve Ninvalle-steward Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) will close off its year of activities, with another Under-16 tournament at the Andrew ‘Six Head’ Lewis gym on Saturday from 10:00hrs.
Just last weekend the GBA, formerly known as the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association, successfully held its National Open/Elite/Juniors/Youth Boxing Championships at the Banks DIH Thirst Park car park and the Andrew ‘Six Head’ Lewis gym respectively – a tournament that was deemed a success by both Ninvalle and national boxing coach Francisco Hernandez-Roldan.
“This is the third and final phase of this year’s DDL/Pepsi-sponsored Under-16 Boxing Competition. Certainly, we have enjoyed an inaugural year with DDL, hosting Under-16 championships under their Pepsi and Gatorade banner at both the Andrew ‘Six Head’ Lewis and Central New Amsterdam Police Station tarmacs respectively.
“We are pleased to have them on board with us, as certainly their input especially with these championships, has helped us tremendously with our nursery programmes and we are looking forward to another successful year with DDL and our other list of sponsors, next year,” stated Ninvalle.
According to Ninvalle, who was recently reelected to GBA presidency, Saturday’s action has 12 bouts carded and he is hoping for another successful tournament.
