Former cop Elton Haynes, known as Bush Bull and Ton, who was shot and injured after he escaped from Central Police Station three weeks ago, has been charged with the murder of Whim businessman Winston Ragnauth.
The defendant was recaptured after eluding the cops by swimming across the Canje river, prior to being spotted in a yard at Cumberland Village, East Canje.
The 22-year-old Haynes, of Manchester Village, Corentyne, who appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo in the Reliance Court, was not required to plea to the charge, which alleged that he, being in company with others, killed Ragnauth, called Tony.
The 57-year-old businessman and father of three was found with an incised wound to his throat in a room aback his home at Lot 2, North Whim Public Road by his son Emmanuel, who is a detective attached to the Whim Police Station.
The case has been transferred to the Whim Magistrate’s Court, where it is fixed for hearing on December 27.
