RYAN Smith (no address given) was fined $3,000 yesterday and ordered to do six months community service for possession of cannabis (marijuana).

Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry imposed the penalty on him after he pleaded guilty to having one gramme of the prohibited substance on December 18.
The defendant told the Court that he would, normally, use the narcotic for his asthma. He said he has been doing so about six months now and it is helping him with the ailment.
