Regional media group welcomes WICB invitation

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) – The Association of Caribbean Media Workers (ACM) yesterday welcomed the invitation by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) to include it among organisations deemed to be stakeholders of the regional game. “We are very pleased to have been accorded this status with one of the region’s most important and enduring institutions – West Indies cricket. Hopefully, this will also have the impact of helping us grow our membership base from among the ranks of the Caribbean’s sports journalists,” ACM president Wesley Gibbings said in a brief statement.
WICB in a letter to the ACM, which groups media organisations in the English-, French-, Dutch- and Spanish-speaking Caribbean, said the decision to include it as stakeholder was taken during a special meeting held in November.
“At that meeting the members duly resolved to expand the list of sectors deemed to be stakeholders of the WICB. The media has been so added and your association, which represents Caribbean media workers, has been added to the list of Special Members of the WICB, with the right to attend and speak at Annual General Meetings.”
The WICB said that the next Annual General Meeting is being planned for March 2013 and that the ACM will be asked to nominate a “representative to attend to represent the interests of regional media professionals in West Indies cricket”.
