Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport/NSC host successful day of interaction

THE Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport/National Sports Commission successfully hosted their eighth Day of Interaction, held at the Enterprise Community Centre ground on the East Coast of Demerara last Sunday. Scores of persons turned out to be part of the event which is geared to bring people together from all cross-sections of society under the umbrella of sports.
Softball cricket, football, chess, dominoes, volleyball and table tennis were the disciplines played where teams from across the East Coast corridor participated.
Both male and female team participated in the softball cricket contest, with Enterprise Stars winning the women’s cricket, beating Gaza Girls in a five-over match.
Batting first, the host team chalked up 40 runs from their allotted overs with the loss of four wickets, while Gaza Girls could have mustered only 31 runs from their five overs for the fall of three wickets.
The home side also won the male cricket trophy by also beating Gaza Youths in their 10-over encounter.
Batting first, Gaza Youths scored 75 runs, losing nine wickets in their 10 overs and in reply Enterprise Street Limers managed to reach the total in just 4.1 overs, losing one wicket in the process.
Enterprise Hymac defeated Annandale Secondary 2-0 to lift the football trophy and Enterprise Legends (36 games) copped the dominoes title over Enterprise Centre Boyz (26 games) and Enterprise Stars (23 games).
Three teams competed in the volleyball tournament which was won by Enterprise Legends 15-6 over Annandale Secondary.
Of the twelve participants, Rohan Mangal upstaged Stedman Martin to capture the table tennis championship.
Meanwhile, the Guyana Chess Federation held sessions with interested persons, teaching the fundamentals, values and different moves and persons were encouraged to start playing the game and become part of the federation.
Sports gear and equipment were given to Annandale and Bladen Hall Secondary Schools, Enterprise Legends, Enterprise Stars and Enterprise Centre Boyz, to aid in the development of the respective clubs.
