GAPF Senior championship dubbed : ‘Judgment Day’ powers off today : -‘The Accomplisher’ and ‘Mr. Clean’ on show

WHETHER it is cricket, football, table-tennis or even karate, athletes associated with those disciplines earnestly look forward to their respective Association’s hosting of the senior tournament or championships, which in some cases, separate the men from the boys.
Today is no different, as the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPF) under the astute leadership of Peter Greene, host their senior championships under the theme ‘Judgment Day’ at the Saint Stanislaus Auditorium from 11:00hrs.
The cream of Guyana’s power lifters from the junior to the senior levels will be seeking to out-duel each other and reports emanating out of the various gyms across the Land of Many Waters, indicate an enthralling and keenly contested battle will be witnessed by those who will take their time out from their regular Sunday duties to grace the venue with their presence.

Guyana’s World Open Powerlifting champion Randolph ‘The Accomplisher’ Morgan, Winston Stoby, the vast improving Vijay Rahim, the 17 year old trio in Kevin Bridgelall, Sohail Hussain and Suraj Shewdas along with Kimberly Loncke and Dawn Barker and Colin ‘Mr. Clean’ Chesney of Linden amongst others, will be looking to leave a lasting impression on the minds of the judges, selectors and audience.

Athletes will be representing such gyms as Total Fitness and Power House Gyms of East Coast and East Bank Demerara respectively, Total Fitness of Corriverton, Kingsrow Barbel Club, Hard Core Gyms of Berbice, Buddies, Zahiff’s, and Upper Demerara Barbell Gym of Linden, among others.

One important reason for the high level of competition is that the GAPF selection committee will be keeping a keen eye on the athletes, who apart from vying for personal glory, will also be looking for a place on the national team which is expected to compete in international tournaments next year.

Weigh in time for today’s action is 09:30hrs while an admission fee of G$500, which will go towards the GAPF’s financial aid in sending teams to international competitions next year, will be charged. (Calvin Roberts)
