WEATHER WATCH : Continuous inclement weather predicted to continue today : – brief, heavy showers expected

THE Ministry of Agriculture, through its Hydrometeorological Weather Watch Centre, yesterday predicted continuous, inclement weather which will continue into the next 24 hrs “due to a trough bedded within the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone”. According to an advisory from the ministry, farmers are reportedly happy with the current weather pattern which came after a long dry spell.
The suggestion is that the rainfall in Guyana will be below normal to normal as the dry season continues. Hence, Guyana is likely to experience brief heavy showers and periodic intermittent rain with occasional afternoon thundershowers over inland areas. As a result, the average weather conditions are expected to prevail over Guyana for most regions.
The Ministry of Agriculture is advising the public that precautionary measures against flash flooding should be taken by residents in low-lying areas. “At the same time, we urge that residents in these areas ensure that they avoid dumping of garbage in waterways, internal drainage and primary drainage systems which can affect the efficiency of these systems,” the ministry added.
