I OBSERVED Mr. Hamilton Green’s letter published in the Kaieteur News (Wednesday, November 28, 2012) in which he was critical of Evening News editor Michael Younge.
Mr. Green’s letter speaks to his adoration for dishonesty by deliberately ignoring the unprofessionalism that permeates the entire media landscape in Guyana and the only way we can fix the problems is by being truthful. There are many other journalists in the midst of us that could be cited for practising journalism that is far worse, some of whom are even on the opposition’s payroll. Mr. Younge did a powerful interview with the Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee and it seems to be sending the likes of Green up a brick wall because the minister was able to put into context the anti-Rohee campaign being unveiled by the opposition.
Mr. Green has no moral authority to address the subject of journalism in Guyana, since he was a key player in the PNC Administration that denied Guyanese freedom of the press and freedom of expression. Many journalists were killed, beaten, censored and muzzled by the PNC.
