THREE schoolboys, who are alleged to have given their teacher a thrashing after being ordered into their classrooms at Vryman’s Erven Secondary School, were, on Monday, ordered to post $20,000 bail each. That was after, each, pleaded not guilty to a joint charge of assault causing actual bodily harm on Darrel Thompson.
The teenagers, accompanied by their respective guardians, appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo at New Amsterdam Court, also in Berbice and are expected to return on March 18.
It is reported that, on November 21, the 16-year-olds were standing along the school’s corridor when they were instructed to go to their classroom, but instead of obeying the instruction, it is alleged that the first named defendant started to use a series of expletives referring to the teacher. As a result, the teacher attempted to discipline him, but he was attacked by the other defendants who, allegedly, cuffed and kicked him about his body.
The virtual complainant, who was not in court when the case was called, had been referred to the New Amsterdam Hospital from where a medical certificate was issued.
