Scarborough Cricket Association presentation – Chattergoon, Crandon among top awardees

TORONTO, Canada – Former National youth player Hemnarine Chattergoon, once touted as the best batsman among the Chattergoon siblings, continues to make headlines in the Canadian cricket circles.

altThe stylish opening batsman, who plies his trade in the Scarborough Cricket Association Premier Division cricket competition here, was on Sunday awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award at the association’s 32nd annual gala presentation ceremony.
The ceremony, which was attended by several top dignitaries, including Bas Balkissoon (Member of Provincial Parliament, Scarborough – Rouge River) and Ontario Cricket Association president Mike Kendall, also saw national player Royston Crandon cop one of the outstanding individual, performance awards.
Both Chattergoon and Crandon are members of the Hawaiian Arctic Cricket Club, three-time consecutive winners of the Frank Faubert Premier Division Trophy, named after the late Mayor of Scarborough. Crandon, who represents Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets, was however absent from Sunday night’s function.
In addition to his MVP award, the 35-year-old Chattergoon, a former Canadian national player, was also the recipient of one of the major prizes for his outstanding bowling performance of five for 22 in one of his six matches while Crandon got his for claiming five for 27.
The association also used the occasion to honour its founding member and stalwart Richard Ramlall, who was unavoidably absent due to illness. The First Division Trophy was unveiled as a token of appreciation for his fine contribution to the body with T.P Tigers Cricket Club emerging as the first winners.
The association was also vocal in its praise for the role played by Western Union, one of its major sponsors who came on board this year, playing a pivotal role in the sponsorship of its T20 competition. Victoria Park Cricket Club came out tops.
Among the other sponsors were Caribbean Wave, Paradise Travels, Action Honda, Norman Sue Bakery, Active Green & Ross, IR Construction and Hawaiian Arctic Inc.
The association also recognised the contributions of Members of Parliament Jim Kariagiannis and Rathika Sitsabaiesan, MPP Bas Balkissoon, Scarborough Recreation and Parks Department, Scarborough Cricket Umpires Association, Ontario Softball Cricket League, Caribbean Camera, Caribbean Times International, Power Play Cricket Equipment and Rosscoe Heilmann  — Platypus.
