With no solution offered… Stranded passengers continue to storm EZjet Office

PEOPLE continue to storm the EZjet Office in Brickdam, Georgetown, with some now accusing the airline of being involved in fraud.

altThis happened after a woman, on Wednesday, displayed, to the media, a ticket she purchased on Friday, November 9, the same day the Guyana Government halted the airline’s local operations.
Dozens, again, demanded refunds, flights out of Guyana and compensation for the inconvenience they have been experiencing since the airline was grounded almost one week ago.
One man, who gave only one name, Dwayne, said he arrived in Guyana on November 3 and was scheduled to return to the United States (U.S.) on November 9. He said, when he telephoned the airline to confirm his flight, he was told he cannot be accommodated immediately and was asked to hold until Sunday, November 11.alt
The man said he is paying rental for a car he is using and an apartment in which he has been staying since his arrival here. According to him, he has been trying to understand the situation with the airline but the employees there have not being forthcoming with him.
He said, when approached about refunds and flights out of Guyana, the airline staff has been telling travellers that their hands are tied since the Guyana Government has placed a hold on its finances.

LODGED
Haltowever this newspaper is aware that the Guyana Government did not seize any monies from EZjet. In fact, there is a certain amount of money which had to be lodged by the airline, like any other which enters the market and that is kept as security should the carrier find itself in difficult circumstances similar to REDjet and now EZjet.
Dwayne told the Chronicle that he has a business in the U.S. which is unable to open because he is stranded here. He said that he is not too concerned about being refunded but what is of more interest to him is EZjet getting him back to the U. S.
On Wednesday, passengers told the Guyana Chronicle, EZjet informed them that they are unable to refund anyone at this time and that such refunds will be made after November 30.
One man is not buying that story though and is predicting that, by November 30, EZjet will file for bankruptcy and that will be the end of the game for the passengers who will have to deal with the Guyana Government and not the airline for refunds.
Another passenger said he was informed that the airline management would meet with the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and contact him after but his efforts to reach the EZjet CEO were all in vain.
Some left back passengers said yesterday that they have not been visiting Caribbean Airlines since it is EZjet which is obligated to them and from which they are seeking answers.
Meanwhile, others said, when they visited the Caribbean Airlines office in Georgetown, customer service representatives advised them that they have no arrangement with EZjet and persons who wish to travel out of Guyana need to purchase tickets.
One woman said she was told the airline will try to give them a good deal but that is the best it can do.
With the conflicting reports and various messages being conveyed by the two airlines, the passengers are now wondering if they are being misled by EZjet or if Caribbean Airlines is attempting to take advantage of the situation.
Efforts to contact officers of both airlines proved futile yesterday, leaving passengers with the view that they are being treated unfairly and calling on the authorities to address the issue and update the public on a clear plan of action for those stranded both locally and abroad.
Another woman, Debra Benn said that she purchased five tickets to go to Trinidad and is now stranded with no money to purchase any other tickets and is unable to travel in the interim. She said that the November 30 date of refund being touted by EZjet is ridiculous.

PACKAGES

One man said that, when they visited the airline’s office, they are treated with the best of respect and offered several packages and priority but when it comes to an airline almost to the brink of filing for bankruptcy and the repaying of refunds, they are left in the cold.
Latchmin said that she purchased a ticket in the United States to travel to Guyana. She said that last week Friday when she telephoned the airline to get confirmation about her flight she was not getting onto them by phone. She said that she took a taxi and headed down to the airport and, when she got there, she was informed that the airline was non-operational and that it was grounded.
She said she was forced to get a flight out of the U.S. to Guyana and at all cost since her time in the U. S. was up. The only flight she was able to secure was on board Caribbean Airlines and that had to be taken in first class.
The woman said she is seeking a refund of the difference that she was made to pay for the first class flight and the money she paid to get to the airport.
Yet another woman said she does not live here and has her child who has to attend school but cannot do so because they are stranded in Guyana. She claimed that the action of EZjet is causing her stress and what makes it worse is the fact that the airline has nothing positive to tell its passengers.
EZjet ceased operating last week after the U. S. and Canadian authorities revoked its operational licences and Guyana followed suit and grounded it immediately.
