Public passageways are becoming targets for abuse

IT seems that our public passageways are becoming targets for abuse by the disgruntled and vindictive political opponents of our government. First were the Linden Bridge and the surrounding roads blockages. Second was the East Bank Demerara Highway at Agricola. An attempt was made to block the East Coast Highway at Buxton but this was quickly prevented by the police. Very recently a female Amerindian miner was allegedly blocked from using the Kato River – a public passageway in the Upper Mazaruni by the Village Council.
Mr. Editor, the public passageways of our country are owned by the state and no one else. Their blockages whether they are rivers or roads, therefore, constitute an offence against the state since they are part of our National Laws which must be upheld by all Guyanese and Non- Guyanese.
