Azore to defend national welterweight title against Austin : … Contracts to be signed today

NATIONAL welterweight champion Iwan ‘Pure Gold’ Azore will this month-end defend his title in a 12-round bout against the vastly improving Mark Austin, when the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) hosts another edition of its Friday Nights ProAm Fights, in collaboration with the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Friday, November 30. Both fighters have not seen action inside the squared jungle for some time, with the Trinidad and Tobago-based Azore’s (15-5-3) last bout being against Troy Lewis in June of this year, while Austin saw action in March of this year, when he was kayoed by Simeon ‘Candyman’ Hardy in the eighth round, close to three months after Azore was also kayoed by Hardy in the ninth round.
However, even though Austin whose record reads 7-3-1 suffered the loss against Hardy, he displayed grit and determination to withstand several combinations that were thrown to his body from Hardy, before he was put away and certainly he will be looking to prove a point against Azore.
Other fights on this card will see Kishawn Simon match gloves with Patrick Boston in a six-round catchweight affair, Gladwin Dorway and Cassius Matthews meet in another six-round junior welterweight encounter and Richard Williams face Rudolph Fraser in a six-round featherweight contest.
All the boxers with the exception of Azore, will converge on the boardroom of Abdool and Abdool, which is located on the Avenue of the Republic, at 14:00hrs this afternoon, to affix their signatures to the respective contracts, before heading off to the gym to commence their preparation.
