MAGISTRATE Leron Daley yesterday refused bail to Charwin Baird, who pleaded not guilty to larceny from the person. The defendant, 32, of Lot 45 East La Penitence Housing Scheme, Georgetown, is charged with having, on November 5, stolen one gold band, valued $56,000, property of Sookmandine Mursingh.
Police Corporal Booker, prosecuting, successfully objected to pre-trial liberty for the defendant, stating that persons must be able to walk with their belongings and not be in fear.
The prosecutor pointed out that the offence is prevalent and a message should be sent to others.
The magistrate remanded the defendant to prison until November 9.
