Willis accused of wanting to hurt image, reputation of BK International

I read with grave dismay an article carried in the Kaieteur News on October 23rd 2012, bearing the caption “BK International spends U.S.$3M on Equipment – says Walter Willis.”

The article focused on the involvement of BK International in the management of the Haags Bosch landfill site, and the critical observations the company made regarding the Project Manager, Walter Willis.
Editor, if BK’s criticism of Willis’s alleged sloth is accurate, then that would amount to serious indictment of Willis’s sense of professional responsibility and of his concern for our environment. It falls therefore for Willis to say to the people of Guyana that he has indeed approved the design for the hazardous waste cell at the landfill site and that therefore BK’s criticism of him is justified.
Kaieteur News reported that Willis released photographs on what was described by the newspaper as an old broken down machine, which according to Willis, “is the U.S. $3M worth of equipment that BK International procured for work on the landfill site.”
It is true that BK International publicly declared that it invested approximately U.S. $3M in equipment for the landfill site. But that should not be a surprise as everyone in Guyana knows that this company has new and powerful heavy-duty equipment being frequently hauled across the roads of Guyana.
I have been following this venture and to date, BK International has never represented or held out to the public that the seemingly inoperable equipment exhibited in the article represented its investment of U.S. $3M.
Editor, both Willis and the Kaieteur News are threading on dangerous grounds with this article. I clearly recall that BK International had an issue with Walter Willis in the court alleging false and misleading statements made by him.
It is important that Willis understands that unless BK International accepts that the equipment displayed in the photographs represents its U.S.$ 3M equipment investment for the landfill site, his statement and the release of those photographs may be deemed as an attempt to hurt the image and reputation of the company.
