DE JESUS Narine, of Lot 174 Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara, was remanded to prison yesterday on charges of simple larceny and escaping from lawful custody.
He appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded not guilty to the offences.
Particulars of the simple larceny charge said, on October 10, he stole one cell phone valued at $38,000, property of Akesh Mohamed and clothing worth $300,000 belonging to Diane George.
The other charge said, on October 29, while being in lawful custody pending criminal charges of simple larceny, he escaped.
Police Sergeant Winneth Hubbard, prosecuting, said the virtual complainants were at their workplace when their belongings were missed and a surveillance camera photographed the defendant stealing the articles.
The prosecutor objected to bail, telling the court that should it be granted, the defendant will not likely return.
The case was then postponed to November 9.
