North Korean Ambassador eyes cooperation in several areas – including IT, human resource

JON YOUNG JIN presented his Letters of Credence to President Donald Ramotar as the new Ambassador of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to Guyana, looking to cooperation in agriculture, information technology (IT) human resource and construction.

altThe non- resident Ambassador conveyed to President Ramotar his government’s “firm position” to develop broadly friendly relations with Guyana, and vowed to maintain close political dialogue, and the possibilities of cultural exchanges and cooperation in public health, during his tenure.
He recalled the diplomatic relations which Guyana and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea first established in 1974, and the membership of the two countries to the Non Aligned Movement.
His advocacy for unity among Third World nations and the defence of sovereignty and dignity at a time when “great powers imposed external policy”, was also expressed.
The bilateral relations between the two countries over the years was described as cordial by President Ramotar, who was assured that Ambassador Jin’s appointment will provide an opportunity for the two countries to explore new areas of partnership.
The Guyanese Head of State assured the new Ambassador of his government’s full support as he serves in his new post.
A former student of the University of Havana, Ambassador Jin also functioned as a translator of the Korean delegation in the machinery factory of the Ministry of Industry in Cuba.
He also served as a Professor of the International Relations Institute and Chief of the International Organisation in the Trade Union Central Committee.
During the period 1973 to 1978, he served as Deputy Director of the Department of Latin America of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and subsequently, Ambassador Extraordinaire and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in the Republic of Portugal and the Republic of Switzerland.
