THANKS to the generosity of five business entities in Corporate Guyana and one individual, the Guyana Darts Association (GDA) was able last Tuesday afternoon, to launch its national championships for this year at the Clerico Club (CCWU). This year’s Team Event is being sponsored by New Guyana Pharmaceutical Corporation (NGPC), the Mixed Triples by Apex Insurance Brokers, Queensway has decided to sponsor the Men’s Doubles, Guyana National Newspapers Limited will take care of the Mixed Doubles.
John Fernandes Limited has taken responsibility of providing the prizes for the Men’s Singles and Dr Terrence Joseph the Women’s Singles competition, which will take place at the CCWU Sports Club on Waterloo Street.
These six categories will comprise this year’s national championships which will take flight next Saturday (November 3) and Sunday November 4, with the action getting into top gear at 16:00hrs on the Saturday and three hours earlier the following day.
Three of the sponsors were in attendance to formally hand over cheques to the GDA, and these are NGPC, Queensway and GNNL, with NGPC providing three hampers of its products, which would go to successful players.
All events will be played on the knock out system and only teams and players registered with GDA are allowed to participate. Entries will be accepted by any executive member of the GDA, and payment for same up to and just prior to the start of the first event.
The first three finishers in each of the six categories will receive trophies and in the team event, each player in the successful teams will receive a trophy, in addition to cash incentives for outstanding individual performances, with all prizes being presented at the conclusion of the championships.
Players are reminded that practice sessions have been arranged at the venue commencing today at 18:00hrs.
