HEAD of the Presidential Secretariat (HPS), Dr. Roger Luncheon said, yesterday, that Cabinet has rejected explanations by the combined Opposition for their orchestration of the October 11 disturbances at Agricola, in Greater Georgetown.

altSpeaking at his weekly post-Cabinet media briefing, in Office of the President, Shiv Chanderpaul Drive, also in the city, he said: “The idea of the October 11th civil unrest erupting spontaneously in response to and after the Cabinet Secretary’s remarks at this press briefing is outrageous and an insult to those affected and to Guyanese in general.”
President Donald Ramotar had been given an ultimatum, by the Alliance for Change (AFC) Chairman, Mr. Nigel Hughes and its Vice-Chairman, Mr. Moses Nagamootoo, to relieve Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Clement Rohee of his ministerial duties.
Luncheon said the administrations of the Opposition parties linked the ultimatum with threats of consequences if the President rejected it.
The HPS said the rejection could not have been unexpected and it is totally inconsistent with developments that took place subsequent to the submission, delivery and serving of the ultimatum to the President.
“The Opposition orchestrated the October 11, 2012 unrest and it was one of their promised and planned consequences in the face of the expected rejection dismissal of the ultimatum given to the President,” he remarked.
In addition, Luncheon stressed that Guyanese far and large, those affected and those aware of what took place have joined with their government in rejecting the excuses and explanations of the AFC and A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) opposition.
