Remanded defendant tearfully denies narcotics charges

TWENTY-TWO-YEAR-OLD Alana Angel known as ‘Lana’ was refused bail and remanded to prison, last Tuesday, on two drugs related charges.

Before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, at New Amsterdam Court, the defendant, of Lot 39 Arapaima Street, Guyhoc Park, Georgetown, is alleged to have trafficked 458 grammes of cocaine on October 5, at Palmyra Village, East Canje, also in Berbice.
Additionally, she, allegedly, had possession of a half a gramme of cannabis sativa (marijuana).
Police said Angel was a passenger in a taxi plying the Georgetown to New Amsterdam route, when the vehicle was stopped a short distance East of the Berbice River Bridge and all the occupants were searched, resulting in the narcotics being found in the defendant’s bag.
Angel, tearfully, denied the allegations as Defence Counsel James Bond made an unsuccessful application for bail.
The case will be called, again, on November 1, for report.
