GUYANA is drawing much attention, as an emerging country with great potential in oil and gas, according to President of Japan’s Information Centre for Petroleum Exploration and Production (ICEP), Mr. Akira Suzuki.
Suzuki, who is here with a delegation to identify prospective investment opportunities in the local oil and gas sector as well as other types of production, met with Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment, Mr. Robert Persaud yesterday morning at his ministry.
The visitor extended an invitation to Minister Persaud to visit Japan between July and September next year and it is expected that Suzuki would do similarly to officials within other ministries should ICEP find it appropriate.
Persaud said he is optimistic about the development of the oil and gas sector and the confidence that investors have shown in it, too.
He said the Government of Guyana is open to foreign investors from all parts of the world and pointed out that it is not partisan to any particular country or investor.
The minister also said that Guyana and Japan have already established strong ties and referred to a project within the fishing industry that flows from that relationship.
Persaud said he hopes that the findings of the Japanese delegation will help build and expand the bond between the two countries.
The visiting delegation will meet with other Government Ministers and officials over the next two days as they seek to gather information about Guyana’s oil and gas potential and other products.
