GUYANESE Lennox Braithwaite, Mahendra Persaud and Dylan Fields dominated the individual category of the West Indies Fullbore Shooting Championships that concluded on Thursday at the Timehri Ranges. The shooters return to the ranges today and tomorrow for the team short and long range championships.
Yesterday was deemed a rest day for the competitors.
Braithwaite shot 388 points with 19 V-bulls ahead of Persaud (380 points, 23 V-Bulls), who is the team’s captain and Fields (378 points, 20 V Bulls). Coming in fourth was another Guyanese Ransford Goodluck who shot 375 points and 15 V Bulls.
Jamaica’s John Nelson who was leading at the conclusion of the opening day finished in fifth position with 370 points with 17 V-bulls.
Trinidadian Norris Gomez (367 points with 15 V-bulls), Jamaican Jose Nunez (365 points with 16 V-bulls), Trinidadian Carl Awong (364 points with 13 V-bulls), Jamaican David Rickman (362 points with 15 V-bulls) and Trinidadian Steven Chung (362points with 14 V-bulls) rounded off the top ten positions.
Meanwhile, the riflemen and women battled for honours in the 600, 900 and 1000 yards and despite their remarkable overall performances, the Guyanese were unable to take full control in those events.
The events were classified X and O for each range.
In the 300-yard X range, Fields (49 points with 5 V-bulls) won ahead of Trinidadian Carl Awong (48 points with 4 V-bulls) and Mahendra Persaud (49 points with 3 V-bulls). In the 300 yards O range category, Trinidadian Oscar Waldron claimed the top spot with (48 points and 4 V-bulls) while fellow teammate Stephen Chung ended with 48 points with 3 V-bulls. Barbadian Lancelot Trotman occupied the third position with 47 points and 2 V-bulls.
The Guyanese dominated the 600 yards X range category with Persaud (71 points with 3 V-bulls) and Braithwaite (69 points with 3 V-bulls) finishing first and second respectively. Jamaica’s, Nelson claimed third position with 69 points with 2 V-bulls.
Barbadian Lancelot Trotman (70 points; 0 V-bulls) rebounded to win the 600 yards range O class category while his compatriots Shelly Hinds and Christopher Joseph ended with 67 points and 2 V-bulls.
Braithwaite once again stole the honours by dominating the 1000 yards X class category when he registered 72 points and 74 V-bulls. Fields copped the second place with 66 points and 1 V-bull while Carl Awong finished third with 64 points with 2 V-bulls.
In the 1000 yards O class range, Lancelot Trotman shot his way to honours, claiming 67 points and 1 V-bull from Christopher Joseph (63 points with 3 V-bulls) and Oscar Waldron (63 points with 1 V-bull).
