CHAIRMAN of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Parmanand Persaud advocated, Tuesday, that Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) should have special persons employed to collect rates and taxes. Speaking at the statutory meeting of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC), he acknowledged that, without such revenue, the local authorities cannot do much, in terms of development, for residents.
Persaud suggested that the rate collectors be employed so as to make the collections promptly.
He also announced that himself and the Regional Vice-Chairman, Mr. Vishnu Samaroo will be visiting the NDC offices to talk with councillors, at their meetings, about the urgent need to collect revenue.
However, Alliance for Change (AFC) Councillor, Mr. Archie Cordis remarked that revenue collection by NDCs is very poor. He charged that officers of the five Councils across the Region are not going out to collect promptly, so as to create a strong financial base for individual NDCs.
Meantime, Anna Regina Town Council has officers doing house to house collection from residents who owe.
