THE official fixtures for the COURTS 2012 Schools Pee-Wee Football Tournament have been released following the competition’s launch one week ago, at a simple press briefing yesterday in the boardroom of the sponsor’s Main Street branch. The tournament will see six consecutive action-packed Saturdays with eight games per day at the Banks DIH Thirst Park starting October 20.
Chronicle Sport was notified that COURTS is not only partnered with the Petra Organisation to develop the physical talents of the children but it also partnered with the Ministry of Education (MOE) to assist with its Interactive Radio Instruction (IRI) Programme.
As such, COURTS, under their ‘Adding Value Everyday’ slogan has decided to add value to these 16 participating schools by donating two ‘boom boxes’ to each school to assist in the IRI Programme.
Initially, the schools would have benefited from some equipment handed to them prior to the tournament but COURTS overlooked this and decided that every school at this level should be able to look forward to something at the end of the tournament.
The first- and second-place teams will win one Acer Desktop Computer along with uniforms, equipment, trophies and medals while the third- and fourth-place teams will receive a desktop computer, equipment and a trophy.
Present at the launching were COURTS Marketing Director Molly Hassan, Petra Directors Troy Mendonca and Marlan Cole, and MoE Head of PE Department Nicholas Fraser.
Fraser extended gratitude on behalf of the MoE and stated that the ministry will be looking forward to a well-organised event.
He added that the Ministry was thankful to COURTS for partnering with the Petra Organisation and giving the school something to look forward to.
Meanwhile, on the opening day action will get under way at 10:00hrs between Marian Academy and St Pius, then one hour later St Sidwell’s take on Ketley, Green Acres battle Sophia at noon then Tucville versus St Gabriel’s from 13:00 hrs.
Simultaneously, West Ruimveldt take on Success Academy, St Margret’s go up against F.E. Pollard, South Ruimveldt face Redeemer and North Georgetown oppose Enterprise.
