CLIFTON Gibson was yesterday granted bail in the sum of $500,000 when he appeared before Georgetown Magistrate Hazel, Octive-Hamilton, on an indictable charge of robbery under arms.
It is alleged that he robbed Lawrence Brown of $200,000
on August 25, being armed with a gun, and working together with others.
Attorney-at-Law, Trenton Lake, represented the accused and requested reasonable bail, claiming that on the day in question his client was not at the scene of the crime.
According to Lake, when his client reported for work, he was arrested and taken into police custody.
Police Corporal, Shevon Jupiter, prosecuting, objected to bail. She said that on the day in question, the accused used the virtual complainant’s cellular phone to call two of his friends, and together they robbed Brown of the money before making good their escape.
Jupiter added that bail should be refused, because the prosecution is of the view that the accused may interfere with the witnesses, and also because a firearm was used to commit the crime.
The prosecutor related that the accused admitted to robbing the virtual complainant in a caution statement.
However, there was no caution statement in the prosecution’s file, and the magistrate consequently granted the accused bail.
Gibson’ matter has been set for court on October 4.
