THE Lions Club of D’Urban Park, Georgetown, in collaboration with the Avocado Community Group of East Ruimveldt, is inviting youths to a community cleanup campaign on August 25th, 2012. The cleanup is set to kick off at 6:30 hrs next to the secondary school in East Ruimveldt. Apart from the Avocado Community Group, which has a large youth based membership, several other youth groups which will be participating in the exercise.
The event is part of the Lions Club service campaign “Engaging Our Youth”, a Lions global campaign taking place during the month of August. During this month, club members work to promote volunteerism and engage young people.
“Organizing this service project gives us a chance to emphasize the role of service and the power of youth involvement,” said President of the Lions Club of D’Urban Park, Ms. Denise Bentick.
In addition to the upcoming event, the club conducts a variety of projects, including weekly library and reading sessions, vision screening, health clinics, career fairs, life skills development sessions, spelling bee competitions and environmental cleanup and beautification projects.
