Accused tractor parts thief granted $600,000 bail

JAIPAUL Parsley, of De Hoop Mahaica, was on Tuesday granted $600,000 bail after he appeared at the Mahaica Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Judy Latchman, charged with simple larceny. He pleaded not guilty to the charge. The allegation states that between January and April 25, 2012, Parsley stole over $1M worth of tractor parts from Fizal Bacchus.
Attorney- at- Law Mr. Gajraj, representing Parsley, in his bail application, told the court that his client was a tenant at Fizal’s residence since 2004. No tenancy agreement was signed by the two parties, and when Fizal returned from overseas, he ordered his client to vacate his premises.
Upon removing, an inspection was conducted at the premises and the only things that were reported to be damaged were a bathroom sink and wardrobe mirror, which his client had agreed to pay for.
He told the court that he finds it ironic that Fizal imported a tractor which was damaged on the wharf while clearing it at Customs, and is now claiming that the damaged parts are the ones stolen by his client.
Fizal was ordered to post a hefty bond, and is scheduled to return to court on October 2.
