Armed bandits rob Annandale business

ARMED bandits robbed businessman/tailor Paul Persaud of 10 Courbane Park, Annandale, East Coast Demerara of more than $100,000 in cash, a cellular phone, fabric and clothing during a brazen attack perpetrated on the man on Sunday night at about 23.00 hrs. According to information received, Persaud, who lives alone, operates a tailor shop below his home. While he was closing the shop, the two men came into his yard and suddenly attacked him, demanding his money.
One attacker reportedly placed a gun to the businessman’s forehead, demanding that he does not raise an alarm, while the other went into the drawer of his sewing machine table and took out the envelope containing his cellular phone and the money.
The bandits then took clothes on display on the walls of the shop, while assuring him that once he cooperated he would not be hurt.
The criminals also took away the man’s two bolts of fabric before making good their escape, after dealing Persaud a good beating.
The criminals made good their escape by boarding two waiting motorbikes. Although the men did not wear masks, the place was too dark to recognise anyone.
Speaking with this publication on Monday morning, the traumatised businessman stated that the incident occurred so quickly that he could not have prevented it, despite him having numerous sharp items in his shop.
He feels that the men who committed the act might have been monitoring his movements, and knew exactly when to attack.
He said he was surprised that the men went directly into the drawer containing the money, without ransacking the place. It was as though they had been watching him all this time and monitoring his movements.
After the incident, the man said, he reported the matter at the Vigilance Police Station, and police are still investigating the matter.
