This too shall pass

QUOTING His Excellency, “As President, I have undertaken to have an inclusionary approach to deal with all your concerns including the electricity issue which precipitated the events of July 18, last”. Words of wisdom, words of hope!
I can’t begin to imagine what is going through the President’s mind; faced with an unmanned, riotous situation in Linden; but even worse is the unfair treatment towards him, and his presidency, almost bordering on racism.
Beginning the moment the November 2011 General Elections results were out, no other leader, save, and except, for the late President Dr. Cheddi Jagan, who spent approx. 28 years as opposition leader, in the wilderness, has been isolated, disrespected, even treated with scorn by those in power.
Those who now demand their rights, members of the opposition and for the most part, all are granted their right to freedom of speech, and freedom of movement. ‘Freedom’, that Dr. Jagan, nor his people were privileged to have. He was then Leader of the opposition.
Yet still, when he became President in 1992, he immediately called for, and practised the art of creating national unity amongst all six races. The man was simply colour blind. In fact he was a President for all the people.
Dr. Jagan never held, nor showed malice to anyone from the opposing sides, and so today, all and sundry, from the politician, to the man in the street, are respected and treated as human beings. I fear for the outcome of Linden, especially when I listened to learned folks like Ronald Webster, Chairman Private Sector Commission {PSC], and Clinton Urling, during an interview on NCN, lately. The way they described the Linden fiasco, is just that – a fiasco!
They are of the opinion that should Linden continue on this destructive path, all hell will break loose, sooner, rather than later, unless of course, Rupert Roopnarine’s prediction, that all will be well is correct. Time will tell. That would augur well with the entire Guyana. Linden is being held hostage and misinformation is being filtered into the Region Ten community, on purpose.
It’s as if, there is window for an attempted coup against this administration. Get them out, the PPP/C, at all cost. Brigadier Granger is the man to watch, and I’ve been saying this for the past months. He is now as power drunk as his buddies, AFC’s Ramjattan and Nagamooto, having won the leadership of the PNC, and still head of APNU. Perhaps one too many caps, for this one man to wear.
Bharrat Jagdeo and Donald Ramotar both, are men of worth, and were handpicked for the offices held, or as in the case of President Ramotar, holding. He holds the very important office of the General Secretary position, for the PPP/C Party, and the Executive seat, as President, at the Office of the President. This is not a man that Granger, as military-minded as he is, should take lightly, nor attempt to walk all over, at will. A coup will not work! This is a seasoned man, so therefore Granger and his pals might be making the biggest mistake of their political lives, as they continue to create and instill division amongst Guyanese, and negative feelings towards the President.
In the end, the people of Linden, will bear the costly price of this ‘hate exercise’, while their leaders are promoting their political agenda.
The open letter by the president, was a brilliant idea; and well written. It holds deep emotional contents, as the man, Donald Ramotar, President of The Republic of Guyana, speaks to the people of Linden, from his heart.
But as the ‘Good Book’ says this too shall pass.
