IN an effort to influence youths to realise their true potential for the future, Natasha Cornette, a teacher, has established a school called Maggie’s Craft where an August programme has commenced. Maggie’s Craft is located at Lot 98 Barr Street, Kitty, Georgetown, where they cater for students from forms one to five in the area of Mathematics, English A, Social Studies, Craft and Information Technology among others.
At the school there is a social worker, who is on hand to assist in career guidance and also facilitates peer counselling for students.
The programme started on July 9 and will end on August 10, 2012, where a five-week packed curriculum which was organized by the University of Guyana (UG) graduate, now a teacher, Natasha Cornette and assisted by other teachers drawn from four schools.
However, at the end of the August programme a cultural programme and a fashion show is planned in which the youths will be able to showcase their talent and at the same time build their self esteem, speech pattern and self awareness.
The event is titled “The Ms. Summer Blaze Pageant” which is in its 5th edition this year on August 10, 2012 at 16:00hrs at the Girls’s Guide Auditorium, Upper Brickdam.
The nine participants were selected from St. Joseph’s High, Tutorial High, North Georgetown, St. John’s College and St. George’s High schools.
Students, who attended this August programme in the past have since gone on to higher learning, and for September this year students of forms one to five can enroll for classes in different subject areas at a fee.
Meanwhile, Maggie’s Craft also thanked their sponsors, too numerous to mention for their contributions.
