THE Bluetooth saw that finally some truth came out as Uncle Robert gave his final speech as Leader of the Palm Tree jungle down in Sophia. As he bid farewell to his “loyal” comrades and they did likewise, he said the party must avoid “wild men” who are in the midst and who are operating as “revolutionaries”. Now those are strong words coming from Uncle Robert, who, according to de Party, was very close to Uncle Forbes. As a matter of fact, a protégé! The Bluetoother heard that when he made the statement, some who felt that the “cap” “fitted” them, went wild! An insider said it was actually everybody that did so!
Guyanese felt the brunt of the “wildness” that came out from the jungle there and which was mercilessly unleashed on innocent people. Elections unrest and the related damage to property and physical abuse to others are just some of the pains people were forced to endure as a result of such “wildness”.
It is the same “wildness” that caused cuts to the budget in a deliberate attempt to put hardworking people out of their jobs. Clearly, only a “wild bunch” would engage in activities like that! The question on the lips of people is why only now Uncle Robert decided to admit! Why he didn’t do so since 2003 when he took over after Uncle Desmond was called away?
Some who know history are saying that in leaving, Uncle Robert wanted to “free” his conscience. They say, to use the local term, “his conscience licked him!” The historians are also saying that if he had chosen to admit some ten years ago, then Guyanese might have been spared the subsequent atrocities perpetrated on them by the wild thugs who clearly had to be instructed.
The other question they are asking is if Uncle Corbin would now say whether he instructed them; if not him, who? They are still trying to understand if this is just another attempt to escape blame and try to look “clean”.
When Uncle Desmond kicked out Hammie, he tried to look “clean” by calling for a “moral and spiritual revival.” Those who were forced to endure Hammie’s wrath when he was in government know that the words “moral” and “spiritual” did not resonate with him. “Brutal” and “uncompassionate” seem more apt!
It now seems a pattern that as senior leaders leaves the Palm Tree dungeon; they are trying to use their parting opportunity to appear as if they were divorced from the thuggery that is synonymous with the Party. Guyanese would never be fooled by such attempts to appear innocent. From what Uncle Robert said, they are most definitely vindicated. Hmmm!
